Use natural light
There are many tricks you can use to optimize the natural light in your home. Putting a mirror near the window makes rooms seem bigger and brighter. Replacing heavy curtains with blinds or light drapers with allow light to flow without interruption. Another way to increase the amount of natural light in your home is with white paint and flooring.
Mix up the lighting
Combining lighting like fluorescents and downlights with halogen bulbs will make light go more uniformly throughout the space. Using one central lighting source will create glare and unappealing shadows.
Diffusers can be your best friend
Daylight bulbs can reduce the warmth in your home, so using warm light bulbs can create the feeling of “home.” Using fabric screens, wood and/or paper are alternatives to curtains and shutters for diffusing light, while indirect lighting can make for flattering glows.
